Orientation and cultural experience

After lunch, spend leisure time in the simple and unique Sapana Village Lodge. We head on a short jungle or village walk with the chain-free elephants to the river bank later in the afternoon. Watching these majestic creatures playing and enjoying in the river is a very humbling experience.

Leisure morning

This morning, you have an option to go for a birdwatching hike in the community forest with our naturalist or go for a lovely village tour in the Tharu villages. Tharus are the indigenous tribe dominating the Terai lands and with a very interesting culture and way of living.

Hike to Pumdikot Shiva Statue, Kalabang village and back to Raniban 4 to 5 hrs | 10 kms

The side trip to Pumdikot, which hosts a giant 32m (108ft) statue of Lord Shiva and the picturesque villages of Kalabang along easy ridge trails is an absolute treat. Pokhara valley in its grandeur can be observed from here. We come back to Raniban Retreat for lunch.

Drive to Begnas Dam. Visit Davi's Fall and Gupteshwor Cave on the way. 2 to 3 hrs

Choose to hike or drive from Raniban down the forest trails and catch fleeting glimpses of the beautiful Pokhara valley on the way to city. Visit Davi's Fall and Gupteshwor Cave, and drive to Begnas Dam.

Today, we head to the lush jungles and marshlands of Chitwan National Park on a jeep. This is a great opportunity to encounter the rich wildlife of Chitwan, including birds, mammals and reptiles. We will head back to the lodge later in the evening.

We go for a w=bush walk with the elephants and have breakfast alfresco in a beautiful setup. It will be followed by feeding the elephants with fruits and vegetable baskets.

After breakfast, we drive to the airport and ctach a flight back to Kathmandu.

Drive from Paro International Airport to Thimpu 1 hrs

Step into the kingdom of Bhutan by landing at Paro International Airport. Depending on the arrival time, we will have a quick lunch or coffee break in Paro town and continue on a picturesque one-hour drive to Thimphu. At Thimpu, immerse yourself in the vibrant streets, lively markets and the pulse of the town. We conclude our day at our hotel in Thimpu. If you arrive early, we take you to Tachogang Lhakhang enroute Thimpu. This spiritual haven pays homage to Thangtong Gyalpo, also known as 'The Iron Bridge Builder’. We walk past the iron suspension bridge and explore the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers.

Explore the vibrant city of Thimpu

Today, we have a line up of interesting exploration and cultural immersion waiting us including Kuensel Phodrang / Buddha Point – 51.5 meters Shakyamuni Buddha statue and view of Thimphu valley. You can also opt for an hour’s hike around the Buddha. Besides, we also visit Memorial Chorten / Stupa – Congregation of devout Buddhists circumambulating the Chorten from dawn till dusk, Bhutan Postal Museum -make your personalized stamps with your photo and use them to send postcards to your family and friends around the world, Takin Preserve – Takin the national animal of Bhutan, Centenary Farmers Market/Kaja Throm, Craft Bazaar – single line of shops selling traditional made in Bhutan arts and crafts. If time permits, we will also explore Tashi Chho Dzong/ Fortress of Splendid Religion - office of the Golden Throne of the Dragon King.

Hike to the iconic Takstang - The Tiger's Nest (3139m / 10300 ft) 4 to 5 hr

After breakfast, we gear up for an invigorating hike to the most important cultural icon of Bhutan, Taktsang Monastery. The hike is a 3-hour uphill journey rewarded with a 2-hour downhill trek. On the way, we also visit Kyichu Lhakhang, an ancient temple dating back to the 7th century.

Archery and exploration

Later, you have the options to engage in traditional archery for some Bhutanese fun, and delve into the culinary culture with a Bhutanese cooking experience, either learning the craft or creating your own delectable meal.

Farmhouse experience with traditional hot stone bath

We end our trip with a traditional hot stone bath at a farmhouse in Paro - white round stones picked up from the riversides are roasted in fire until red hot and then immersed in a wooden tub of fresh spring water sprinkled with herbs. These hot stones baths are supposed to be very curative with numerous medicinal and healing properties and has been the practice since the ancient times in Bhutan. We have a farewell dinner with our team at the hotel.

Set off to Pattale on an eight-hour-long scenic drive along the winding hilly roads east of Kathmandu. You will witness tiny villages nestled in the hills as well as the modernizing highway cities on this journey that constantly follows a river. We make multiple stops on the way for lunch, tea, and restroom. Our stop for the night is Pattle, a tiny village that offers a range of mountains on the horizon.

Trek from Singane to Jhapre 2 to 2.5 hrs | 6 kms

We start walking after getting dropped off at Dhap, and the sights of the mountains stay with us throughout. Jhapre is another lovely place with views of rolling valleys and mountains that start appearing closer.

Trek from Jhapre to Pikey Peak Base Camp 5 to 6 hrs | 13.5 kms

The walk takes us above the treeline today, and in a wide prairie-like landscape, the panorama starts getting more dramatic. As we gain more elevation, we get 360-degree view of the mountains on one side and layers of hills on the other. It can get quite windy so have a windcheater handy. We check into a hotel at Pikey Peak Base Camp and have some hot food. Although we'll be going to Pikey Peak the following morning for sunrise, you may choose to either take rest for the day today or make it up to Pikey Peak in late afternoon to watch the sunset over the mountains.

Trek from Pikey Peak Base Camp to Junbesi, via Pikey Peak 7 to 8 hrs | 16 kms

We set off to Pikey Peak early morning before dawn to catch the changing colors and sunrise over Khumbu mountains. Besides Everest, you can see other giant mountain ranges like Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Manaslu and Annapurna. After photo ops and catching final glimpses from Pikey Peak, we walk down to Jasmane Bhanjyang where we have a hearty breakfast, then on to the gorgeous monastery town of Junbesi through lush jungle.

Explore Junbesi and hike to Thupten Choling 3 to 3.5 hrs | 7 kms

Junbesi has a lot to offer. We explore this picturesque town of Junbesi and visit the biggest and oldest monastery of Solu- Thupten Choling. We spend some time in peace and make our way back to Junbesi for lunch.

It’s a short walk today, which leaves us with more time to explore Ghandruk. The trails today are mostly downhill through rhododendron forests, all the way to Ghandruk – a large Gurung settlement.

Gurung is an ethnicity of Nepal, with their own culture, dialect and lifestyle. Treat yourself some lazy time over tea/lunch gazing at the mountains or explore the town and visit the Gurung museum if you wish to.

Post breakfast, we begin our descent from High Camp. Passing through lush forests and villages, the steep downhill walk can be strenuous on the knees. Using trekking poles is highly recommended. The trek ends in Sidhing, a typical Gurung village boasting interesting architecture and lifestyle.

Set off on a long scenic drive from Kathmandu, chasing the Trishuli River on roads that change from smooth to bumpy, and become extremely bumpy as we near our destination. You will come across interesting villages, terraced fields, and scenic views of layered hills and mountains (on clear days). Dhunche is our stop for the night and the starting point of our trek. You'll find hotels, eateries, ATMs to withdraw money, as well as shops for any last-minute shopping here.

Trek from Dhunche to Sing Gompa 5 to 6 hrs | 7 kms

After sorting out baggage and having breakfast at our hotel, we begin our trek from Dhunche. The trail descends to the Trishuli River, crossing a suspension bridge before climbing the steep trails through dense forests of rhododendron and oak. We come across views of Langtang Lirung mountains on the way and stay overnight at Sing Gompa, a pretty village with a monastery.

Trek from Sing Gompa to Gosaikunda 6 to 7 hrs | 8.5 kms

Today, the trail consists of a steep uphill climb until you reach Lauribina Pass. Decorated with prayer flags, this pass offers magnificent views of the Langtang range. We then start descending on steep trails to Gosaikunda, passing several small lakes. The sunset from this sacred high-altitude lake of Gosaikunda, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, is simply magical.

Trek from Gosaikunda to Dhunche 7 to 8 hrs | 15.5 kms

After enjoying the surrounding lakes and the sunset from Gosaikunda, we begin our descent on the same trails back to Sing Gompa. The day will be long, but you will continue through the beautiful landscapes and lush forests encountered on the way up. Our trek ends at Dhunche.

We have a hearty breakfast and get picked up by our reserved vehicle. After a short yet rewarding adventure, we traverse the familiar roads back to the city of temples, Kathmandu.

Step into the kingdom of Bhutan by landing at Paro International Airport. Depending on the arrival time, we will have a quick lunch or coffee break in Paro town and continue on a picturesque one-hour drive to Thimphu. At Thimpu, immerse yourself in the vibrant streets, lively markets and the pulse of the town. We conclude our day at our hotel in Thimpu. If you arrive early, we take you to Tachogang Lhakhang enroute Thimpu. This spiritual haven pays homage to Thangtong Gyalpo, also known as 'The Iron Bridge Builder’. We walk past the iron suspension bridge and explore the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers.

Explore the vibrant city of Thimpu

Today, we have a line up of interesting exploration and cultural immersion waiting us including Kuensel Phodrang / Buddha Point – 51.5 meters Shakyamuni Buddha statue and view of Thimphu valley. You can also opt for an hour’s hike around the Buddha. Besides, we also visit Memorial Chorten / Stupa – Congregation of devout Buddhists circumambulating the Chorten from dawn till dusk, Bhutan Postal Museum -make your personalized stamps with your photo and use them to send postcards to your family and friends around the world, Takin Preserve – Takin the national animal of Bhutan, Centenary Farmers Market/Kaja Throm, Craft Bazaar – single line of shops selling traditional made in Bhutan arts and crafts. If time permits, we will also explore Tashi Chho Dzong/ Fortress of Splendid Religion - office of the Golden Throne of the Dragon King.

Punakha Day exploration

After breakfast, depart from Thimphu and drive to Punakha, Bhutan’s former capital. Stop at Dochula Pass (3140m) to enjoy panoramic views and visit the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, built to honor the Fourth King. Descend to the scenic rice valley of Lobesa and visit Chhimi Lhakhang, the Fertility Monastery dedicated to the eccentric ‘Divine Madman,’ with a short hike through a village surrounded by paddy fields. Explore Punakha Dzong, Bhutan’s most stunning fortress at the confluence of two rivers, known for its rich art and history. End with a walk across the Punakha Suspension Bridge, a 160-meter-long bridge adorned with prayer flags, offering spectacular valley views. Return to Paro in the late afternoon.

Hike to the iconic Takstang - The Tiger's Nest (3139m / 10300 ft)

After breakfast, we gear up for an invigorating hike to the most important cultural icon of Bhutan, Taktsang Monastery. The hike is a 3-hour uphill journey rewarded with a 2-hour downhill trek. On the way, we also visit Kyichu Lhakhang, an ancient temple dating back to the 7th century.

Archery and exploration

Later, you have the options to engage in traditional archery for some Bhutanese fun, and delve into the culinary culture with a Bhutanese cooking experience, either learning the craft or creating your own delectable meal.

Traditional hot stone bath

We end our trip with a traditional hot stone bath at a farmhouse in Paro - white round stones picked up from the riversides are roasted in fire until red hot and then immersed in a wooden tub of fresh spring water sprinkled with herbs. These hot stones baths are supposed to be very curative with numerous medicinal and healing properties and has been the practice since the ancient times in Bhutan. We have a farewell dinner with our team at the hotel.

An early morning drive from Kathmandu on winding roads takes us to Manthali, a tiny little town in Ramechhap district. Manthali Airport has been the gateway to Lukla since 2019. We start around 2 or 3 am in the morning following the Sunkoshi and Tamakoshi rivers, and reach Manthali right on time to catch the 6:30 or 7 am flight to Lukla. Note: All the flights to Lukla operate from Manthali Airport, Ramechhap during the months of March, April, May, October, November and December.

Trek from Lukla to Monjo 5 to 6 hrs | 12 kms

We meet the rest of our crew, arrange our baggages, have breakfast, and embark on a journey to Monjo, passing exciting suspension bridges and tiny village settlements following the Koshi river. If the flight is delayed causing late hike start, we will call it a day in Phakding (1-2hrs before Monjo).

We walk northward along the banks of Koshi and reach the entry point of Sagarmatha National Park, from where the gruelling uphill awaits before we reach the amphitheater town of Namche, nestled perfectly atop a hill.
