A massive white dome pulsing with Tibetan chants, incense, and prayer wheels. |
One of the largest stupas in the world, Bouddhanath is the epicenter of Tibetan Buddhist life in Nepal. Surrounded by over 50 Tibetan monasteries, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a deeply spiritual and atmospheric place, where pilgrims circumambulate the stupa spinning prayer wheels and chanting mantras. The stupa’s massive mandala base and its watchful Buddha eyes symbolize wisdom and compassion. The surrounding area is also rich with traditional thangka shops, Tibetan tea houses, and peaceful rooftop cafés—perfect for immersing yourself in the rhythm of daily Buddhist practice.
